Kids' Dr provides neuropsychometric and learning assessments for children and adults at Earlwood and Ramsgate Beach. Psychological assessment assists in exploring the individualised learning needs of both gifted students and students with learning difficulties or learning disabilities. Assessment of a child’s specific areas of strength and weakness is important to assist with accurate diagnosis and understanding of a child's presentation. Assessments administered are tailored to suit the individual needs and purpose of assessment. This helps inform appropriate interventions and adjustments to support your child in their learning journey. Formal diagnoses using DSM-5-TR criteria are made where appropriate.

The psychologists work collaboratively with and liaise with key people including parents, teachers, and other professionals involved in formulating plans and interventions. An initial consultation with one of our psychologists will assist in exploring further the individual needs of the child and assessments to be undertaken. Assessments are conducted by our psychologist only in the morning and may take 2-4 hours with short breaks. Our standardised assessments are administered by experienced psychologists with an extensive background in education. Results are explained both verbally and in a formal comprehensive report.

Assessments for adults are also available and may be required for a variety of reasons including to support a study pathway, changing work environments or for NDIS funding.

Is your child gifted? Why should your child have an assessment?

Learning is Fun

Why should your child have an assessment?

  • If they are exhibiting challenging behaviour that is not within the expected age-appropriate behaviour.

  • If they are consistently having trouble sustaining attention or disrupting peers in a classroom setting.

  • If they are bored in class or find it slow-paced, and are easily completing the work.

  • To measure their true learning potential.

  • To identify specific learning difficulties

Benefits of an assessment:

  • It can assist in making applications to access NDIS, government, or school disability funding.

  • It helps identify the needs and support required in schools, i.e. special needs teachers or support class

  • It helps manage academic support and minimise negative school experiences.

  • It helps manage and reduce poor academic results, school avoidance, or low-self-esteem.

  • It assists in generating a developmental plan for the your child's growth.

Many facial wrinkles occur when we use our muscles to form facial expressions. The wrinkles formed during these expressions are called dynamic wrinkles. For example, when we smile our eye wrinkles become prominent and when we frown the vertical lines between our eyebrows become noticeable. When we are young our skin springs back to its initial position after facial expressions, but as we get older dynamic wrinkles remain on the skin to form static wrinkles; these are the wrinkles and folds that are present at rest. This process occurs because natural substances such as collagen (the major structural protein in the skin), elastin (the protein that causes tissue to stretch) and hyaluronic acid (which gives skin volume) decreases with age. This, together with environmental factors such as exposure to sunlight, smoking and stress, all contribute to the appearance of wrinkles and folds.

Wrinkle relaxing injections have been used for over 20 years cosmetically. It was first approved for use in Australia for movement disorders (eye & face) in 1993 and for eye spasms and crossed eyes in New Zealand in 1991. It is a very safe and proven treatment. The actual treatment can take as little as 10-15 minutes following a consultation and takes 5-7 days to be effective (up to 2 weeks for full effect) and will generally last 4 months on average. There may be mild stinging/burning during treatment with temporary localised redness/swelling and occasional headache. Temporary weakening of surrounding muscles can occur and will resolve in a matter of days or a few weeks.

No long term ill effects have been reported but treatment should not be performed during pregnancy or breast feeding or with certain medical conditions.
